I was brought onto this show (the first show of the year) on the first day of tech week. The crew needed a new lighting assistant as the previous one dropped the show, so I used this as a way to get into crew. It was cool to see all the new actors on stage with the existing, seasoned ones -- everyone played off each other so well and it was one of my first experiences in theatre as a whole.
I was assistant lighting director for Footloose. It was only my second show as a part of the PSP in high school, as it was for all the freshmen -- it was also my first experience working on a musical ever, and it was a wonderful, wonderful experience designing the lighting for certain scenes (the house scene, if you've ever seen the show, and for "Girl Gets Around") and just being around an incredible group of actors and crew members alike. Footloose was definitely where I caught the bug for theatre, as it was here where I decided to audition for the next and final show of Freshman year, Almost, Maine.
Senior Scenes was my first acting role ever. Having only been crew prior to this, I had no real experience memorizing lines, acting to a crowd, or being on stage at all, and it was an especially nerve-wracking experience being the first, middle, and last scene of the show. Having the most stage time so early was an incredibly weird experience as an actor this young, especially, as mentioned, having absolutely no skill at all. I'm so proud of my work in this show and I loved sharing the stage with everyone.
I was lucky to be an usher for this incredible show, as my racing season overlapped with the showings of this play by William Shakespeare. It was an incredibly lovely experience watching the actors perform this technical show and seeing the crew nail every scene change. I was able to, post show, assist the crew with assorted tasks of prepping for the matinee show. I am not pictured in the crew photo provided, as they do not take photos of the ushers.
Click the fullscreen button to watch! This is the scene I was picked for in the 2023 edition of Senior Scenes. My director, Kiki Keith (who now goes to Northwestern for Theatre!) wrote the whole scene by herself, directed it, and then recorded it during the show. This is the recording!
This show was my first experience being on the stage as a running crew memberÂ
